Planning ahead

Fees and payment information

Karen's fees are carefully set to be fair and reasonable while supporting a high standard of private specialist care. Reception will provide the current fee schedule before your appointment so you can understand the expected costs and payment arrangements.

  • Pregnancy management fee: This supports your private obstetric care throughout pregnancy, including the management of complications that may arise. It can be paid progressively during the first 28 weeks.
  • Care and availability: The fee supports longer, more frequent appointments, prompt assistance between scheduled visits if concerns such as pain or bleeding arise, and 24/7 obstetric care. She will meet you at the hospital in case of an emergency. Dr Paice is always available by phone to discuss concerns.
  • Fertility care: Fees are based on the type and length of consultation.
  • Medicare and insurance: Private health insurance does not cover specialist consultations provided outside hospital. Eligible patients may receive a Medicare rebate for specialist consultations when referral requirements are met. Private hospital cover is separate and depends on your policy, so you should confirm your pregnancy and hospital cover directly with your health insurer.
  • Payment options: Payment by card is preferred. Diners Club and American Express are not accepted. If you think you may have difficulty paying on the day, please contact the Practice Manager before your appointment.

Before your appointment

Preparing for your first appointment

Karen limits her caseload to ten births each month so she can provide attentive, personalised care throughout your pregnancy and birth. When your appointment is confirmed, reception will provide the information you need before your visit, including the current fee schedule.

A current referral from your GP or specialist is needed on the day of your first pregnancy appointment, and is also needed to access eligible Medicare rebates. You can book the first pregnancy appointment before organising your referral, however the referral is best provided 2-3 days before your appointment. A current referral is required before a fertility appointment can be booked.

What to have ready

Reception can confirm what is needed for your appointment. In general, it is helpful to have:

  • A current referral from your GP or specialist
  • Relevant ultrasound reports, blood test results or hospital correspondence
  • Details of previous pregnancies, fertility treatment or other investigations, if relevant
  • Your Medicare and private health insurance details, where applicable

Partners and support people are welcome to attend appointments. If you are enquiring about fertility care and have a partner, reception may also ask for their name and date of birth to be included on the referral. Partner details are not required for an egg-freezing consultation.
